On the Valensole plateau, as daylight withdraws, the mauve spikes turn a cool blue and the air becomes velvety. The in-between light of dusk blends deep night blue with the iridescent sheen of the slender stems. At times, the sun lingers, casting its liquid gold over the flowering fields, warming their aromatic notes.
