The wind has risen over Kerala. Along the Malabar Coast, the backwaters of Alleppey unfold in lagoons and canals stretching across Lake Vembanad. Aboard a traditional kettuvallam, once a wooden fishing boat crafted from coir and timber, the journey slows, suspended in time. 
 
Around the rice fields, papaya and mango trees stand alongside coconut palms wrapped in pepper vines, their tendrils winding around the protective trunks. One catches a glimpse of the dark berries, that black gold traded for centuries through the port of Kochi. 
 
Spicy Road celebrates the spices of Western India: pepper in the top notes, vanilla and incense at its heart, resting on a warm, woody base.
